To support the mission of Christian Legal Society by executing clear, compelling, and Christ-centered communications across multiple platforms. This role is a hands-on position requiring practical skill sets that is responsible for helping tell the story of CLS, engaging members and supporters, and advancing the organization’s visibility, programs, and impact within the Christian legal community.
Specific responsibilities include organizing and maintaining email communications and marketing, website maintenance, social media monitoring and promotion, assistance promoting CLS’ events, developing and maintaining the communications calendar, and serving as a point-of-contact for media. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and editing skills, highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about integrating faith with professional excellence.
Major Responsibilities:
The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to support the mission of Christian Legal Society by executing clear, compelling, and Christ-centered communications across multiple platforms. This role is responsible for helping tell the story of CLS, engaging members and stakeholders, and advancing the organization’s visibility, programs, and impact within the legal and Christian communities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about integrating faith with professional excellence.
As this position works closely across all of CLS ministries, the Communications Coordinator must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of leadership. In addition to being self-motivated and professional, the Coordinator must also be a problem solver and be willing to work with a team to ensure goals are achieved even when roadblocks arise.
Duties Include (but are not limited to):
- Implements and evaluates communications plans in collaboration with senior leadership and ministry directors.
- Ensures the highest quality for CLS’ branding and marketing. Reviews all media, correspondence, and communications to ensure the highest standards.
- Draft, edit, and distribute communications including emails, newsletters, news briefs, website content, print materials, and social media platforms.
- Draft creative and engaging content that reflects CLS’s mission, values, and voice.
- Assist in storytelling efforts that highlight member impact stories.
- Work with the ministry departments to update and improve the organization’s website content to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Coordinate email marketing campaigns with ministry teams (e.g., newsletters, event promotions, announcements).
- Develop, with leadership, a concise social media strategy and ensure adherence by scheduling posts, creating content, and monitoring
- Promote CLS events and initiatives through various communication channels.
- Work with the design team in developing event materials such as programs, signage, and digital promotions, ensure timely completion and distribution.
- Puts communication vehicles in place to create awareness within the chapters and clinics in collaboration with ministry directors.
- Collaborates in the editing process for all written, verbal, and published communications, focusing on quality and content.
- Coordinate communication timelines and deadlines across departments
- Maintains communication calendars and content schedules and works closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and ministry directors to keep CLS communications on schedule
- Track communication metrics and assist in reporting effectiveness
- Support special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Agreeing to the CLS Statement of Faith and to abide by CLS Community Life Statement
- A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, related field, or related experience that ensures excellent writing and editing skills
- 1–4 years of experience in communications, marketing, and/or nonprofit work
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with email marketing platforms, social media tools, and basic website content management systems
- Experience in communications or public relations demonstrating writing and editing experience covering areas such as website content, newsletters, and external facing communications, with experience in non-profit/legal preferred.
- Experience implementing communications strategies.
- The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the appropriate audiences through the best communication channels.
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new ideas and initiatives. Ability to collaborate with the leadership team.
- Experience working in a nonprofit, ministry, or faith-based organization
- Familiarity with the legal profession or professional associations
