ShareBuilt is a faith-founded nonprofit organization that serves communities by helping make construction dreams a reality for nonprofits in need. ShareBuilt connects nonprofit organizations with design, construction, real estate, and related business professionals who are willing to share their talents, relationships, and resources to collaboratively accomplish projects with purpose.

Our mission is to provide a collaboration platform for worthy recipients with project design and construction needs, enabling donors and professional partners in the broader Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) business community to engage in ways that align with their interests, capabilities, and values.

Position Summary

ShareBuilt seeks a mission-aligned Director to join its Board of Directors and provide legal insight, governance perspective, and strategic counsel as the organization continues to grow. The ideal candidate will be an attorney or legal professional with experience advising organizations on governance, contracts, nonprofit compliance, risk management, real estate, construction, or business operations. Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, real estate development, or related industries is strongly preferred.

This is a volunteer board leadership role for someone who is energized by ShareBuilt’s mission, comfortable engaging with business and community leaders, and willing to help strengthen the organization’s governance, legal readiness, public credibility, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Faithfully support ShareBuilt’s mission, values, policies, programs, and organizational needs.
• Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for ShareBuilt, helping expand awareness, credibility, partnerships, and financial support.
• Bring legal and governance perspective to board discussions, including bylaws, policies, conflict-of-interest practices, contracts, risk management, and compliance matters.
• Help the Board of Directors fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities, including strategic planning, organizational oversight, financial stewardship, fundraising, program monitoring, and board self-assessment.
• Review board materials, attend quarterly meetings prepared, and participate conscientiously in board discussions and decisions.
• Participate fully in one or more board committees or working groups, especially in areas related to governance, legal readiness, risk management, policy review, or strategic growth.
• Leverage personal and professional networks to help identify partners, donors, advisors, and service providers who can advance ShareBuilt’s mission.
• Use LinkedIn and other appropriate professional channels to advocate for ShareBuilt and sponsored projects.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding internal ShareBuilt matters and disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest in a timely manner.

Desired Qualifications

• Commitment to ShareBuilt’s mission and Christian faith foundation.
• Attorney, legal professional, or individual with significant legal, governance, compliance, or risk-management experience.
• Professional standing, integrity, and sound judgment.
• Experience with nonprofit governance, corporate governance, contracts, real estate, construction law, development, employment, compliance, or related matters preferred.
• Experience in, or strong familiarity with, architecture, engineering, construction, commercial real estate, real estate development, or related business sectors strongly preferred.
• Ability to think strategically while also contributing practically to a growing, working board.
• Willingness to build relationships, make introductions, and open doors within the legal, AEC, real estate, business, philanthropic, and faith-based communities.
• Collaborative spirit, humility, and desire to serve nonprofits and communities through professional expertise.

Board Service Expectations

• Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in regular board meetings.
• Serve on at least one board committee or working group.
• Read and understand ShareBuilt financial statements and other key organizational materials.
• Make or secure a meaningful annual financial contribution in support of ShareBuilt’s mission, with a current board member target of $4,000 or more annually.
• Help identify personal and professional connections that can benefit ShareBuilt’s fundraising, reputational standing, project partnerships, and public influence.
• Follow ShareBuilt’s bylaws, policies, board resolutions, and conflict-of-interest requirements.
• Sign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if circumstances change.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding all non-public organizational matters.

Term and Structure

Directors are elected by the Board of Directors and serve in accordance with ShareBuilt’s bylaws. Board members are expected to participate as engaged governance leaders and practical contributors during this stage of ShareBuilt’s growth.

A Director with legal background will help ShareBuilt strengthen its governance practices, manage organizational risk wisely, support responsible growth, and ensure that its work continues to be conducted with excellence, transparency, and integrity.

Additional Information:
The Director does not need to be located in Middle TN but needs to be able to be present in Middle TN twice per year for in person meetings and twice per year available for virtual meetings. Directors should be aligned with the values of ShareBuilt as a Christian Faith founded organization serving both community and Christian organizations.
