Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Reflection

As Christian lawyers, we desire to share our faith with those around us, but we cannot always share the gospel directly at work. 

However, we are still called to witness indirectly by demonstrating God’s love to others through our conduct.

The primary way to do this is to do our work well.  If we say that we are Christians, but are not faithful in our jobs, we are not acting with integrity, nor are we being good ambassadors for Christ.  Jesus’ earthly ministry consisted of actions as well as words, and we should follow his example.

We should be looking to see how we can use the unique gifts and talents that God gave us in order to make valuable contributions at work. Our mindset should be innovative and entrepreneurial as we seek to go the extra mile in improving our workplaces and the world at large.

Another way that we can serve is to seek to bless those around us.  We should strive to avoid conflict among our coworkers and should be intentional in seeking to encourage those around us.  Rather than promoting ourselves, we should look to serve others.

If we are faithful in our conduct at work, we will be witnessing through our actions. And, if it is God’s will, our faithfulness might open the door to more direct conversations about the gospel.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for giving me a job where I can be a witness for you through my work.  Help me to have an eternal perspective as I complete my day-to-day tasks so that I can demonstrate my belief and my hope through my actions.  As I come in contact with individuals, allow me to work in harmony with them so that I can make their jobs easier.  And if it is your will, I pray that my conduct would help to point some of those people toward your saving truth. Amen.
