Description:
Legal assistant for growing Naperville law office, full time Monday through Friday. Practice areas are real estate, estate planning and estate settlement, including probate, tax preparation and advising, and small business transactions.
Successful applicants would need to submit to a criminal history check. Past transgressions will by no means automatically terminate one’s ability to be hired, however, being eligible to obtain a notary commission is essential to job functions. Already having a notary commission is a plus.
Duties and skills required are as follows:
- Ability to manage files and deadlines for real estate transactions is critical, and able to manage an office wide calendar.
- Writing letters and emails to other attorneys and clients, or other professionals related to the law practice; answering phone calls; reviewing files; tracking important deadlines; able to work alone and independently in the office when necessary, though would likely be working alongside others in the office on a regular basis; ability to occasionally drive to title companies, county offices, or court houses.
- Ability to communicate professionally and with assertiveness on the phone, by email, and in person with clients, other lawyers and legal assistants, as well as other parties related to the functioning of the law practice.
- Ability to work with numbers and data entry for tax returns, particularly during tax season January through April.
- Computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe; familiarity with Apple computer systems is a plus, but not required.
Legal knowledge or paralegal certification or experience is a strong plus. Ability to learn about the areas this practice concentrates in is essential, as is attention to details, particularly with document drafting and calendaring deadlines. Work environment is very relaxed, though business casual attire is required.
