Position Summary

Provide leadership to ACSI’s work of expanding Christian education, school choice, and religious liberties across the United States by organizing state advocacy groups to impact legislation. 

ACSI operates on a model of integrated advocacy, using litigation, legislation/regulation, policy advocacy, school engagement, and organizing as mutually supportive tactics to advance Christian Education. Will work within the broader Public Policy and Legal Affairs Department of ACSI. 

This position is remote and work will be performed from a home office anywhere in the Continental US.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a policy expert and advocate on state school choice through the development of state advocacy networks
  • Direct efforts with school leaders in each state to advocate for good legislation
  • Participate in state legislative hearings and briefings, public interest coalition meetings, working groups, and events to educate lawmakers, the public, and other stakeholders as needed
  • Serve as a policy consultant on issues to state advocacy networks, where needed; primary liaison between ACSI-created state advocacy networks and ACSI
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with groups and individuals on state levels that impact Christian education; represent ACSI interest at strategic state level conversations
  • Create and implement strategic plans that seek to identify in-state Christian school leaders to build an effort of school-led advocacy groups of ACSI schools to advocate on the state level for issues impacting faith-based education
  • Create and maintain resources for state advocacy networks to further their ability to work and communicate within their state
  • Coordinate and conduct training and outreach activities for schools by conducting fact-finding trips, assist in coordinating training sessions and subject specific briefings
  • Monitor federal and state legislation at the direction of the Vice President for Public Policy and Legal Affairs
  • Assist with other department efforts as needed by the Vice President for Public Policy and Legal Affairs
  • All other duties as assigned 

Compensation and Benefits

Starting Salary: $88,000 to $92,000; based on work experience, education, training, knowledge, skills, and internal and external equity

Qualifications

Spiritually the ideal candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect

  • an active participation in a local Bible-believing church
  • a willingness to enroll K-12 school-aged children in a local Christian school

Required Experience and Education

  • Five or more years of experience in a mix of policy work, school choice, coalition, and advocacy work
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Christian Education, Legal/Legislative processes, or a related field preferred
  • Educational experience preferred
  • Strong legal research and analysis
  • Legislative analysis
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in English, writing, composition, grammar, and spelling

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Professional remote work environment in which to conduct videoconferences and phone calls
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% by plane or automobile; estimated one to two times per month
  • Driver’s License required to be kept current and in effect as a condition of employment
  • Employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk, and hear
  • Essential duties require the use of computers to process information
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to read at close range and distinguish colors and contrasts
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal
